MALAYSIA TO MEET SINGAPORE IN FINAL


IPOH: Host and defending  champion,  Malaysia will meet Singapore in the finals of the 4th Asia School Hockey Tournament at the Azlan  Shah  Stadium, Ipoh, tonight.

 Fancied Malaysia blasted Thailand 10-0 while Singapore whipped Indonesia 8-0 in the semifinals last night.

Malaysia led 4-0 at half time through goals by Muhd Zulhamizan, Nik Muhd Aiman Nik Rozemi, Muhd Hafizuddin Zaidi dan Muhd Asyraf Hadi Ramley.

The homesters struck six more times in the second half through Muhd Najme Ahmad Hayazi, Zulhamizan, Abdul Khaliq Hamirin, Muhd Luqman Hakim, Mawardi Hamirin and Mohd Aliff Syazwan.

SINGAPORE ENTERS FINAL


IPOH:  Singapore qualify for the 4th Asian Schools Hockey Tournament when they whipped Indonesia 8-0 in the semifinals at the Azlan Shah Stadium, yesterday evening.

The win came as no surprise as the Singaporeans had maintained a clean record to top Group B.

They will now meet defending champion and host, Malaysia in the final tomorrow. Malaysia is expected to defend the title won in 2006 in Kuantan.

Singapore started cautiously and took 14 minutes to break the opponent's defence through Darren Dian Lun Sia’s field goal.

Eight minutes later Muhammed Fauzi A Wahab, who scored a hat trick in this game, found the net from a penalty corner for Singapore to lead 2-0 at half time.

Muhammad Mikaaiel increased Singapore’s lead in the 50th minute followed by Dineshraj Naidu  (52 and 57), Fauzi (54 and 64) before Gurveer Singh wrapped up the game with a goal from a penalty corner in the 69th minute.

SRI LANKA TAKES 5TH POSITION




IPOH:  Runner-up, Sri Lanka beat Macau 5-1 to take fifth position in the Asian School Hockey Tournamet 2014 played at the Azlan Shah Stadium, Ipoh, this evening.

As expected,  Sri Lanka, third in group B did not face any problem against their opponent who came out  third in group A behind Malaysia and Indonesia.

Sri Lanka led 3-1 at half time through goals by Rabindu Serannimanka, Malith Rasanga dan Mohamed Irfas Mansoor in the 9th, 13th and 31st  minute.

Though defeated, Macau however  can  still feel proud after breaking the duck to at least take home a goal from this tournament.

The player who brought some smiles back to the team was Vong Teng Fong who scored a feld goal in the 32nd minute to reduce the deficit.

However the goal was not enough to lift Macau`s spirit when play resumed after being stopped 45 minutes due to heavy rain.

Infact it was Sri lanka who eincreased the kead through goals by Ruwan Lakmal Dissanayaka and Asitha Yohan Bandara in the space of one minute in the 39th minute.
