MALAYSIA DEFEATS INDONESIA

Malaysia defeated Indonesia 15 - 0 in the opening match for Group A in the 4th Asian School Hockey  Championship last night.

Leading by 5 - 0 in the second half, our players kept the ring to themselves and made Indonesia out of depth when Malaysia piled in 10 more goals.

Malaysia needs to overcome Macau in tonight's match in order to secure a place in the final match.

Yesterday's match saw Muhd Alif Syazwan sending in the first hat rick while Muhd Zulhamizan, Nik Muhd Aiman Nik Rozemi, Luqman Nul Hakim and Muhd Luqman Hakim contributed 2 goals for our team respectively.

The remaining netting were slammed in by Muhd Hafizuddin Zaidi, Muhd Najme Ahmad Hayazi, Abdul Khaliq Hamirin and Khairul Helmy Napi.

THAILAND 3 HONG KONG 0

Thailand gave an early warning on its strength when it defeated Hong Kong 3-0 in the Group A match in the 4th Asian School Hockey Championship at the Azlan Shah Stadium last night.

Thailand now is at the top rank in Group A defeating Singapore and Sri Lanka with the advantage of 3 goals.

However, it was not an easy victory for the Thais since they had to wait until the second half before they could overcome their opponents who gave them a tough fight in the first half.

Pasakorn Wadtuma opened the scoring for Thailand at the 3rd minute when he sent a powerful hit passing the goalkeeper, Muhammad Ali Khan from a penalty corner hit.

17 minutes later, the Thais captain Tanwa Yongtong scored a goal through another penalty corner hit. Later, Theppithak Namkhot hit a field goal at the 61st minute to complete the Thais victory over Hong Kong.

SINGAPORE MADE A GOOD START

Singapore made a good start in the 4th Asian Schools Hockey Championship by defeating Sri Lanka 1-0 at the Azlan Shah Stadium in the first game today.

Irfan Noor Hakim Azami emerged as the hero for the Singapore team when he scored the winning goal at the 60th minute in a penalty corner.

Both teams had equal chances throughout the game, however the Sri Lankans were let down by several penalty corners.

IPOH: The Director General of Education, Datuk Dr Mohd Khair Bin Mohamad Yusof hoped that all participants to the 4th Asian School Hockey Championship will take the opportunity to get acquainted with each other and foster friendship.

"Certainly, each of you will pit your skills and talents against your opponents from other teams. But I encourage you to also make the most of this wonderful opportunity to showcase your best athletic talent and spirit comradeship," 

"I would like to share with you the quote from Jesse Owens, the legendary American Athlete who won gold medals in the 1936 Summer Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany. It goes like this; 

"Friendship born on the field of athletic strife is the real gold of competition. Awards become corroded, but friends gather no dust. "

"Few will dispute that sports make you strong, healthy and teach us to accept defeat graciously and celebrate victory in humility. These lessons later will become building blocks of success in life. And being the young ambassadors of your country these values augurs well for the future and the success of the region, " he said during the opening ceremony in Syuen Hotel, last night.

Present at the ceremony was The Perak's Education Director, Tuan Haji Mohd Idris Bin Haji Ramli and Director of Sports Ministry of Education, Madam Ee Hong.
